Helena’s Hawaiian Food, Honolulu Hawaii.

Helena’s Hawaiian Food is a local resident and tourist favorite on the island of Oahu. Hidden in the Kalihi neighborhood, people from all over go through traffic, minimal parking, and long wait times in order to enjoy their ono Hawaiian food. The owners and staff are super friendly and the food items are flavored nicely, with some one-of-a-kind dishes. Per my recollection, this shop is the only one on Oahu that sells pipikaula (salted and dried beef jerky) in kalbi style. Also, they have some fresh cooked fish like ahi and butterfish on the menu. The laulau (pork wrapped in taro leaves) and lomi salmon (chopped tomatoes and salmon pieces), kalua pork, chicken long rice are also very yummy. If you are a poi (taro) lover, one of my friends said that adding lomi salmon into it adds a lot more flavor.

Helena’s is open Tuesdays through Fridays, so make sure you don’t go during the weekend or Monday. No matter how busy it gets here (especially on Fridays), we still make a trip to Helena’s for our Hawaiian food cravings!
