Spend a day in Honolulu – Hiking at Diamond Head / Nighttime Disaster / Rainbow Drive-In for Hawaiian Food / Chinatown for Dim Sum / Costco Honolulu
OAHU HAWAII TRIP 2024 SERIES – Day 4 – Episode 4
We spend our final day with the car driving to Downtown Chinatown to visit the Chinatown Cultural Plaza to have a dim sum lunch at Fook Lam Restaurant. Enjoyed the variety and the food was good, but wasn’t our favorite place. We then made a stop at the Honolulu Costco for some Hawaiian snacks and goodies that we could bring home.
We then spent the rest of the day at Diamond Head State Monument (around 3:30/4:00PM) hiking the trail to the top. It’s a pretty good hike with some flat surfaces and some uneven paths. It has a bunch of steps, a tunnel, a spiral staircase, and a bunker. Most of all, it has some awesome views of Waikiki, Honolulu, and the surrounding areas. It’s a fairly moderate hike, but well worth it. We had such a great time. And we found parking outside the tunnel to the entrance, probably because we went later in the day. Also, you need reservations to enter the park, and if you want to park inside, you also need reservations for that. Once we were done with Diamond Head, we got some Hawaiian Food at the Rainbow Drive-In. That had some pretty good Hawaiian food. We ate it at the Hyatt Regency.
We finished off the night with a sunset, tried to see the Friday Hilton fireworks, which was a fail, and ended with a little pool time. By the way, the musician playing at pool side was awesome. And then it happened…at 10:30PM, the bathroom ceiling started leaking from the light, then the air conditioning vent, then the sprinkler, and finally into the ceiling cracks in the bedroom. Supposedly, the room above us left the bathtub running and it poured into our room. At one point it was a waterfall. It was rather entertaining trying to save all our bathroom supplies, and clothes in the closet and luggages. The Hyatt was nice enough to move us from the 6th floor to the 27th floor as an upgrade with the most awesome views of Waikiki Beach and Hotels. Finally got to bed in our new room around 2AM. It was a very eventful evening.
Next Up, we are heading to the Ala Moana Center. We enjoy some breakfast and coffee at Island Vintage Coffee, lunch at the Ala Moana Food Court, and dinner at LuLu’s Waikiki. It’s another great day and time to slow down a bit.
