When I first heard about this place, I’m not going to lie, I was skeptical. Yes, I’m a carnivore but after eating around the globe, I’m ready to try just about anything…..BUT…VEGAN SUSHI?????
Well, Tane Vegan Izakaya is a whole new ballgame when it comes to taking sushi to a whole new level and not making you miss that fresh fish taste at all.
Upon entering the restaurant, you’ll see the cool yet modern design of the interior, and we were greeted by some of the friendliest staff. The food preparation is immaculate and all safety procedures are being followed. Then menu is found through a QR code, and after a quick scan on your phone, you’re shown a plethora of choices that are sure to excite anyone’s taste buds.
While Vin is NOT a veggie fan at all, I think he did the majority of eating at this establishment. Not only are they vegan, but they also have gluten-free options as well.
The rolls are a great size, flavorful, seasoned perfectly, and most of all soooo fresh. The crispness of the asparagus in the Leahi roll, combined with the flavorful beet, and the creamy tofu texture was a show stopper.
While the Leahi, Wedge, Beet Salad and Gyoza were fantastic, I was really surprised at the unbelievable amount of flavor in the Manila Dune. The combination of pumpkin tempura, spiced burdock, and shredded tofu lends so much flavor to this dish while the avocado crema, spicy aioli and renkon chips finish it off to perfection. Put this on your MUST TRY LIST IN HAWAII FOR SURE.
After all of the great appetizers, salads, soups, and rolls, dessert was yet another home run. Who knew DAIRY-FREE ice cream could taste this good??? The chocolate beet cake fooled my non-veggie eating child, while the pistachio ice cream and perfectly ripe papaya did more than satisfy my sweet tooth.
Whether you are a vegan or not, Tane Vegan Izakaya is a MUST TRY RESTAURANT while you’re visiting HAWAII.
