Spam Musubi has always been a delicious treat to me, and I love making it. Here’s the full recipe in case you wanted to make it!
Ingredients:
-1 container spam
-3 cups short grain rice
-3 eggs
-3 sheets of nori
-1/4 cup soy sauce
-1/4 cup dark brown sugar (light brown sugar works too)
-2 tbsp mirin
-1 tbsp sugar
-1 tsp salt
-Toasted sesame seeds
Directions:
-Start with 3 cups of short grain sushi rice, wash it, and put in a pot with 1 tsp rice vinegar, 1/2 tsp salt and a pinch of sugar, then cook, season with toasted sesame seeds
-To make the sauce mix 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup dark brown sugar and 2 tbsp mirin, whisk until sugar is dissolved
-Cut one can of spam into 7 even slices, cook in pan with butter on medium heat until the spam starts to turn golden, brush both sides with the sauce and continue cooking on low
-For the eggs, mix 3 eggs, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp mirin and a pinch of salt, whisk and pour half into a pan using oil this time
-When it’s ready, flip half of the omelette and pour the rest of the eggs under the cooked egg to create layers
-Finally use the empty spam container to create the musubi, start by placing a piece of plastic wrap in the container, scoop in 1/3 – 1/2 cup of rice, drizzle sauce on the rice, place the egg, then spam and press down
-Cut a sheet of nori into thirds, brush sauce on the Nori to help the rice stick better
-Place the musubi spam side down, wrap tightly and enjoy!
