If you’ve ever been Hawaii and had the pleasure of trying garlic shrimp from one of the food trucks, then this might look familiar. If not, then you’re in for a nice surprise! This is my take on the islands’ famous garlic shrimp. These juicy, succulent prawns are cooked in a buttery garlic sauce with an extra kick of cayenne and served with a squeeze of lemon and fragrant coconut rice. It’s super easy to prepare and is packed full of flavor.
RECIPE:
1 pound deveined medium or large shrimp (peeled or unpeeled)
1 medium head of garlic, chopped
4 Tablespoons unsalted butter (salted butter is fine, reduce the salt in the recipe)
2 Tablespoons all purpose flour
1 Tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon cayenne (adjust for spiciness level)
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons olive oil
lemon
fresh parsley
black pepper
